Terms & Privacy

The plain rules for using LocalOne and how account and marketplace data is handled.

Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

1. Terms of Service

Welcome to LocalOne! These terms and conditions outline the rules and regulations for the use of our website and services. By accessing this website, we assume you accept these terms and conditions. Do not continue to use LocalOne if you do not agree to all of the terms and conditions stated on this page.

1.1. Services

LocalOne provides an online marketplace that connects customers seeking professional services with skilled local traders. We are a neutral facilitator and are not directly involved in the agreements made between customers and traders.

1.2. User Accounts

When you create an account with us, you must provide information that is accurate, complete, and current at all times. Failure to do so constitutes a breach of the Terms, which may result in immediate termination of your account on our Service.

1.3. Professional Information & Verification

LocalOne empowers professionals to showcase credentials, including profile information, insurance details, right-to-work status, and optional DBS evidence where relevant. Some information is self-declared by traders. Where LocalOne reviews evidence or receives a verification outcome from a provider, we may display a simple public status badge.

Important Notice: Verification badges show the status available to LocalOne at the time of review. They are not a guarantee of future conduct, service quality, insurance validity after expiry, or legal suitability for every job. Badges may expire, be removed, or require renewal if evidence changes or becomes out of date.

We recommend that customers:

  • Review the public badge status and ask the trader questions before engaging their services
  • Request current insurance or qualification evidence directly from the trader if it matters for your job
  • Ask for references and verify credentials independently
  • Review the trader's ratings and customer feedback on their profile
  • Communicate clearly about your expectations and requirements

LocalOne provides the platform for connection, but customers remain responsible for making informed hiring decisions. Traders are responsible for ensuring their declarations are accurate and up-to-date.

1.4. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall LocalOne, nor its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Service.

LocalOne is not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of services provided by traders, nor the accuracy of information provided in their profiles. Any interactions, agreements, or transactions between customers and traders are conducted independently of LocalOne.

2. Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. It is LocalOne's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across our website.

2.1. Information We Collect

We only ask for personal information when we truly need it to provide a service to you. We collect it by fair and lawful means and let you know why we're collecting it and how it will be used. This may include your name, email address, phone number, location data for service matching, identity verification outcomes, right-to-work information, insurance evidence, and optional DBS evidence where relevant.

2.2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our website
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our website
  • Understand and analyze how you use our website
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality
  • Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for customer service, to provide you with updates and other information relating to the website, and for marketing and promotional purposes
  • Process your transactions and prevent fraud
  • Facilitate connections between customers and local service providers
  • Verify trader identity, right-to-work status, insurance evidence, and optional DBS evidence where relevant
  • Display public verification badges without publishing private documents

Our legal basis depends on the check and context. We may process verification data because it is necessary to provide trader account and marketplace services, because we have a legitimate interest in fraud prevention and trust and safety, or because a legal obligation applies. Optional DBS evidence may include criminal-offence data, so we handle it separately and only where we identify an Article 6 lawful basis and a relevant UK Data Protection Act 2018 Schedule 1 condition.

2.3. Data Security

We are committed to protecting your data. We use industry-standard encryption and security protocols to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

2.4. Trader Profile Information

Information provided in trader profiles is controlled and provided by individual traders. LocalOne stores this information securely and may use selected fields to show customers profile details, service coverage, availability, and verification badge status. Traders are responsible for keeping profile information current and accurate.

2.5. Verification Documents

Identity documents, insurance certificates, right-to-work evidence, and optional DBS evidence are used for verification only. Customers see public status badges, not the private files themselves. We restrict access to verification documents, retain them only for as long as needed for the verification purpose, and delete or anonymise them when they are no longer required unless we need to keep a limited record for legal, dispute, fraud-prevention, or compliance reasons.

2.6. Messages and support investigations

We store messages sent through LocalOne to deliver conversations between customers and traders. Message content is not included in routine administrator dashboards. Authorised investigators may review relevant messages when necessary to handle a support request or dispute, investigate reported abuse or suspected fraud, address a safety concern, or comply with an applicable legal obligation. This does not give staff permission to browse unrelated conversations.

Investigator access requires a recorded purpose, an assigned investigation case and a limited date range. Access is time-limited and logged. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted against LocalOne access. We do not use private message content for advertising or AI training through this support workflow.

Our basis for delivering the messaging service is performance of our agreement with you. Necessary and proportionate support, dispute and safety investigations may rely on our legitimate interests in protecting users and resolving problems, subject to their rights and interests. Where a specific legal obligation applies, we may rely on that obligation. Sensitive information in a conversation requires additional safeguards and, where applicable, a separate legal condition before it is used.

You can report a conversation from Messages. Reporting does not automatically disclose your entire message history to staff or to the other party. Any onward disclosure must be necessary and limited to the relevant information. Please avoid sending identity documents, payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information in chat.

Messages remain available while needed to provide your conversation history. We review whether continued retention is necessary when an account closes or erasure is requested. Relevant records may be retained for an unresolved dispute, a legal claim or another documented requirement. A report does not create a blanket indefinite hold on all your messages. Access logs and case records are retained only while needed for accountability, investigation or applicable legal requirements.

You can contact us through Contact Us to request access, correction or erasure, or to object to processing based on legitimate interests. We assess requests under applicable law and protect other people's information when responding. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. LocalOne support investigations do not replace court proceedings or guarantee resolution of a dispute.
